Sleep counselling and hypnotherapy

Many of us struggle getting a good night’s sleep. What is enough for one person can be wholly inadequate for another. What is enough for an adult may be too little for a teenager. At Rushcliffe-Counselling talking through sleeping patterns and triggers can really help. Hypnotherapy can be beneficial, encouraging peaceful sleep.

Every transition stage in our lives includes different demands on our sleep patterns and when this isn’t aligned, the repercussions can cause worry, exhaustion, anger, irritability, lack of concentration, low mood, negative personal relationships , poor performances at work or school and so on. The list is long. And when these feelings and struggles are not addressed, bigger struggles can occur.

So, what is a good night’s sleep and how can you have some control if you are struggling?

Everyone is an individual and all our needs and environmental factors will have an impact; even our physical and mental health will have some affect.

Here are some tips that can help children and adults-

  • Spend time slowing down if you can. Read a book, listen to music, have a hot bath. Anything that encourages your brain function to slow down.

  • Don’t get into bed until you want to sleep. Try a bean bag or chair as a place to read and make your bed the place for sleeping.

  • Practice muscle relaxation techniques. Work from the head to your toes, slowly tensing and then relaxing the muscles in that area.

  • Use any breathing technique that works for you. Breathing in for 4, holding for 4, exhaling for 4 and holding for 4. Repeat for a minute or so.

Any of these tips can be repeated during the night and may help.

But what if this isn’t working and you feel like your head is full of information with thoughts that keep you awake. Or are stirring you during the night?

At Rushcliffe-Counselling talking through sleeping patterns and triggers can really help. Using hypnotherapy to encourage peaceful sleep and suggest ways to control and deal with intrusive thoughts in the night can have beneficial results. The methods we use in the sessions can be practised by you at home and allow you to become in control of your own sleep therapy.

Sleep. We all do it and need it- but what happens when you feel constantly tired and have interrupted sleep patterns?
